By using the app, you agree to this policy.
Data We Collect
Photos you scan — Sent to our AI service for real-time plant identification. Not permanently stored on our servers.
Scan history — Stored locally on your device only. We cannot access it.
Anonymous usage data — Screens viewed, features used. No personally identifiable information is included.
We do NOT collect your name, email address, location, contacts or any sensitive personal data.
App Permissions
Below are the permissions the app requests on each platform and why they are needed.
📱 Android
- CAMERA — Required to take photos for plant scanning directly from the camera.
- Photo selection — On Android 13+ the app uses the system Android Photo Picker, which requires no storage permission. On older Android versions, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is used only so you can choose an image from your gallery. The app does not request broad photo or media access.
- INTERNET — Required to send images to our AI service for plant identification and to load ads.
🍎 iOS
- Camera (NSCameraUsageDescription) — Required to take photos for plant scanning.
- Photo Library (NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription) — Required to select images from your photo library.
- Microphone (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) — Required by the iOS camera framework. The app does not record or process any audio.
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT) — Asked before any advertising identifier is accessed, in line with Apple's privacy requirements.
AI Analysis
Plant identification is powered by Google AI. When you scan a plant, the image is sent to Google's AI services for analysis over an encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connection.
Google AI returns the plant name, species information and care recommendations directly to your device. Images are not retained beyond what is necessary to complete the analysis.
Google's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
Advertising — Google AdMob
The app is free and supported by ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and device information to serve relevant ads.
Before any advertising data is collected, we request your consent via the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) in accordance with GDPR. You can change your consent at any time through your device settings.
To opt out of personalised ads — Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads · iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
Analytics — Firebase
We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data to understand how users interact with the app and improve the experience. This data cannot identify you personally.
We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic information (such as device model, OS version and the app state at the time of a crash) so we can fix bugs and improve stability. This information is not linked to your identity.
We also use Firebase Remote Config to adjust app behaviour remotely (e.g. ad settings). No personal data is collected through Remote Config.
GDPR & Consent
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We display a consent dialog before any advertising or analytics data is collected. You can accept, decline or manage your preferences at any time. Firebase Analytics data is retained for 14 months per Google's standard policy.
iOS App Tracking Transparency
On iOS 14.5 and later, we request permission via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before collecting any advertising identifier. Declining means you'll still see ads — just less personalised ones.
Change this anytime: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
